Your First Visit

Welcome to Boulder Hut. Bouldering is a form of climbing over short distances over crash matting, there are no ropes or harnesses which helps to make it an accessible activity for all ages and abilities. We offer a fun environment, promoting problem-solving skills as well as physical challenges and a great sense of achievement at all levels.

When you arrive, one of our friendly members of staff will greet you, check you in, and supply you with any shoes or chalk if you have hired them.

Our café is open from 11:30 daily serving a broad menu of vegetarian and vegan meals as well as cakes.

Our customer services team can provide you with any hot, cold drinks or snacks.

We have lockers that are free to use for you to store your belongings safely (please bring your own padlock) as well as cubby holes dotted around the site.

The slab wall is very good for practising footwork, and our training walls and gym are for use for over 18’s only.

When using the slide, please vacate the area at the bottom as soon as possible to avoid any collision with other users.

Please do not walk through or under the arch, be wary of other climbers who may be above or below you.

The cave can be a dangerous place and is not recommended unless you're an experienced climber.

If you like a challenge, the competition wall might be the place for you as this wall doesn’t generally follow the grading system, and any colour can be any grade.

Our Boulder Zoo is especially for children but can also be used by adults who do not feel confident to use the main walls.

Our shop supplies shoes, clothing, chalk bags, and anything else climbing orientated you can think of.

If you follow the one-way system you will find changing rooms, disabled toilets, baby changing and two other toilets, with the corridor finally leading you back to where we started.

Waiver

If you haven't already, please fill in a waiver. You can find this here. It will save you time and queuing when you arrive.

A waiver should be completed for every member of the group, whether climbing or spectating.

Booking

We advise booking prior to arriving to avoid disappointment. Due to COVID19 regulations, we have limited spaces and bookable time slots to be able to maintain social distance and reduce the spread.

You can find our bookings page here.

What should I wear?

We would advise you to wear something that is comfortable, and with a bit of stretch. If you are using the main walls, please make sure you are wearing climbing shoes. You can hire them from us for a small fee.

It can get chilly when the doors are open, so a jumper and warm coat would be advisable also. And don't forget your face covering.

What else should I bring?

Climbing is a workout, so a bottle of water is a must, we will re-fill them for free and we have canned water available to purchase from the cafe.

Who can I talk to?

Our team is always on hand and happy to answer any questions you might have. There is no such thing as a silly question so please ask away.

We pride ourselves on being a social hub here at Boulder Hut and run social evenings every night of the weekday from 7pm with the exception of our student social which runs from 5pm until 7pm.

Monday - Women's social
Tuesday - New set social
Wednesday - Adult beginner social
Thursday - Over 45's social
Friday - Student social

Parking

We have an off-road car park which has parent and child spaces as well as disabled spaces and charging stations for electric cars. Please avoid parking to the left of our building as this area is reserved for our neighbours.
