Catching up with Team GB athlete Jen Wood

Team GB athlete, Jen Wood, regularly pops in for a climb at Boulder Hut.  Over the Christmas holidays, Sam caught up with her to find out more. . .

How long have you been climbing for?

I’ve been climbing for about 12 years.

What made you start climbing?

I had my birthday party at a local wall and then started getting involved and joined the kids’ clubs.

What’s your favourite thing about climbing?

I like the fact it’s always different, each session is different, and you can constantly change your goals. I also like the fact that it’s really sociable.

Where’s your favourite climbing destination?

Kalymnos – it’s lovely and sunny.

What are your main goals for 2019?

My main goals for 2019 are to make the Boulder World Cup Semi-Final and become a better combined athlete, getting sub 11 in speed.

Out of the three Olympic disciplines, speed, sport and bouldering, which is your favourite?

Bouldering is my favourite although I enjoy them all.

We’ve seen you climb fairly regularly here, what’s your favourite thing about Boulder Hut?

I like the space and how open it is and also the selection of holds. It’s really important, especially in competition climbing, to practice using the different style of holds.

If you have budding athlete in your family, we have birthday parties and kids’ clubs to start them off.
